Does it feel like the job openings in your department are taking longer to fill than they used to? Maybe, you’ve landed that new hire, but you’re spending a more time training them than you had in the past. Or are you counted among the many schools whose staff are saying they’re finding it hard to promote the much-needed health and wellness services and programs while clearly experiencing burnout among themselves at having to stretch resources so far for so long.

A new Industry Insights report from NIRSA shows that you’re not alone if any of the above scenarios resonates with you.

Learn possible next steps in about 5 minutes

The short report is just over a five-minute read. It considers the future environment that campus recreation professionals work in, how that environment influences their needs, and what their goals are given the market and environment. It provides key findings, with information about how the results impact the profession and possible next steps for institutions, leaders, and professionals.

The longer, quantitative survey report offers readers a deeper dive into the survey’s background and methodology, demographics of respondents, and responses to individual questions.

Spend a few minutes this week to better understand the context of campus recreation today and discover potential, concrete strategies to address the real challenges facing many departments across North America.

Support from the NIRSA Foundation

Since 2017, NIRSA has engaged Association Laboratory to periodically gather benchmarking data to track the environment within which campus recreation professionals work. The fourth iteration of data gathering occurred in the summer of 2023, to continue investigating changes occurring within the profession. The NIRSA Foundation provided the funding necessary for the 2023-2024 benchmarking and reporting effort.

The Industry Insights summary and full report are available to members for free thanks to the generous support of NIRSA Foundation donors. Nonmembers can purchase the publications for only $25.
