Do you know the best place to celebrate the rich history of NIRSA and to socialize with the future leaders of the Association? It’s the Founders People of Color Social, of course! All are welcome!

This year’s social—taking place on Wednesday, March 30th at 6:30pm in the Oregon Ballroom Lobby at the Oregon Convention Center—will be the first time we’re all back together in-person for this celebrated event since 2019.

The Founders People of Color Social is open to everyone. It provides networking and mentoring opportunities, fosters the involvement of people of color in the Association, and encourages active participation in leadership roles. Refreshments and light hors d’oeuvres will be served thanks to the generous sponsorship of PLAE and Life Fitness.

Celebrate a distinguished leader

At this event, we will have the honor of conferring the Juliette Moore Distinguished Leadership Award on one deserving recipient. This award was established to honor those individuals who have helped further the goals of building a diverse and inclusive culture in our Association by fostering equality of opportunity, encouraging diverse perspectives, and creating a welcoming and supportive climate.

What happened in 1950?

NIRSA is extremely proud of its long history and its many accomplishments. The stage for this Association was set in 1950 by Dr. William N. Wasson, who organized a meeting of 22 African American men and women intramural directors from 11 Historically Black Colleges.

The inaugural conference was held that year at Dillard University in New Orleans. Participants at the conference formed the National Intramural Association (NIA).

We hope to see you on Wednesday, March 30. Get ready to celebrate our history!
