The 2016 NIRSA Annual Conference & Recreational Sports Exposition at the Gaylord Palms in Florida will be here before you know it. Although registration isn’t set to open until December 1, you can see that the major elements of conference are starting to take their places in the conference overview schedule.

A few things to note as new and different for 2016 include:

  • The Recreational Sports Expo Grand Opening will follow the Opening General Session on the conference’s opening night
  • A new “Student Conference Kick-Off” event is set to follow the Opening General Session—the Student Leadership Team will lead students on an orientation of the Gaylord Palms and highlight key student-centric conference events and opportunities
  • The Small College & Community College Social will also take place opening night—following the Expo Grand Opening—so professional networking can begin taking shape early in the conference
  • The 2016 Conference Program Committee plans to offer a sampling of Pecha Kucha™-type presentations
  • Grab-and-go lunch items will be for (cash) sale in or near the Expo Hall on select days
  • There will be a Dive-In Movie showing in the outdoor pool on one of the evenings

Members of the Conference Program Committee have been knocking on doors, making phone calls, and sending emails encouraging members to submit presentation proposals before the upcoming August 12 deadline. NIRSA hopes that you will consider submitting a proposal, because whether selected for the conference program or not, each and every proposal strengthens the overall quality of the Association’s professional development offerings.  Forms, topic areas, deadlines, and complete guidelines for presentation proposal submissions can be found on the NIRSA website.
