Mark your calendars and start gearing up because the biggest intercollegiate cycling competition in college recreation is back for a third year and excitement for the knockout tournament is riding high! The 3rd Annual Fall Frenzy Expresso Tournament schedule is set for this fall:

Qualifying Round: October 6-7
Super Sixteen: October 13-14
Electric Eight: October 20-21
Fearsome Four: October 27-28
Championship: November 3-4

Hosted by NIRSA associate member Interactive Fitness, this bracketed tournament for the most miles on the Expresso virtual reality bikes happens over a span of five weeks, with 48hour rounds. The 2015 tournament will feature 43 different tours for riders to choose from. The bikes allow the rider to experience crossing snowy mountains, grassy knolls, and even outer space, with resistance building at every hill and the rider needing to steer and shift to get through the course.

Last year, 124 colleges across North America competed in the 2nd Annual Expresso Fall Frenzy before NIRSA member Schoolcraft College in Michigan brought home the coveted Golden Spokes trophy! Schoolcraft celebrated victory in the Championship round after a back-and-forth two-day battle with Gannon University. Both teams logged over 4,000 miles in what was an incredibly close race—Schoolcraft achieving final glory with just a margin of 119 miles.

Schools large and small enter into this tournament. On their way to victory in 2014, Schoolcraft College chased down a couple of pack leaders—even beating 2013 Golden Spokes holders Louisiana State University. Lisa Cunningham, Fitness Lead and Assistant Manager at Schoolcraft College, spoke proudly about taking on and beating larger schools, especially LSU: “That one was fairly large,” she said. “They won it last year and were the champs in 2013,” Cunningham added.

Official rules and participation guidelines are available online. Schools like Louisiana State University, Iowa State University, MIT, and more participated in the first round a year ago and will be back in the upcoming tournament. Over the course of last year’s tournament, 2,333 riders from 124 schools rode a combined 54,330 miles and burned over 1,800,000 calories on their Expresso bikes. And we expect this fall to be even bigger!
