NIRSA Foundation Travel Grant—presented by Core Health & Fitness
The NIRSA Foundation is excited to partner with Core Health & Fitness to offer NIRSA’s Professional Members financial support to attend the 2020 NIRSA Annual Conference.
When you set out to build something, the finished product is only as strong as its foundation. So when Core Health & Fitness brought together fitness brands from all corners of the industry, we settled for nothing but the best.
StarTrac. StairMaster. Nautilus. Schwinn. Four iconic brands that pioneered entire categories, and whose machines are still the ones members ask for by name. Today, we’re committed to continuing the tradition that started decades ago – and that’s greatness you can feel good about building on. With Star Trac, we’re with you and your members every step. And it goes beyond providing cardio products. It’s about solutions designed around users to help mold lifelong habits for health and fitness. For facility operators, it’s about relationships that are just as strong and enduring as the equipment that bears our name.
The NIRSA Foundation Travel Grant allows leading NIRSA professional members the opportunity to advance their career in the field of collegiate recreation by networking and gaining valuable knowledge without shouldering the expenses of travel and lodging.
Travel grants will be awarded based on need to one NIRSA professional member from each of NIRSA’s seven regions. The $1,000 (USD) grant is specifically designed to cover travel expenses associated with attending the NIRSA Annual Conference (airfare, mileage, and hotel). Funds will be released in the form of a reimbursement check after the NIRSA Annual Conference and Campus Rec & Wellness Expo. Please review the eligibility requirements before applying.
CORE Health & Fitness is committed to the professional development of our NIRSA Family thanks to their sponsorship with the NIRSA Foundation.
Scholarships for the NIRSA Family are possible thanks to NIRSA Foundation donors. The NIRSA Foundation proudly supports the future leaders of campus rec.
The application period for 2020 professional travel grants has closed.
Please check back in late summer 2020 for information about travel grants for 2021.
Application Guidelines
Travel grant applications for the 2020 NIRSA Annual Conference must be completed and submitted by December 3, 2019.
Applicants will be notified of their application status by late February 2020.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be a current NIRSA professional member at the time of application and must maintain membership through the 2020 NIRSA Annual Conference and Campus Rec & Wellness Expo, with one exception: professionals employed at Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) do not need to hold NIRSA professional membership to apply for travel grants; however, recipients from HBCUs will be required to purchase professional membership upon accepting a travel grant.
NIRSA professional members are limited to one travel grant in a three-year period. Professionals are not limited to receiving only a grant award or a scholarship award in the same year and can therefore apply for NIRSA Foundation Scholarships and the NIRSA Foundation Travel Grant. Preference will be given to NIRSA members who have been unable to attend the previous NIRSA Annual Conference.
Disbursement Process
The travel grant will be released in the form of a reimbursement check after the NIRSA Annual Conference for the following approved expenses: airfare, mileage (at the standard IRS reimbursement rate) and lodging (room and tax only for up to five nights).
Please note: The travel grant covers travel and lodging expenses up to $1,000 (USD) related to the 2019 NIRSA Annual Conference and Campus Rec & Wellness Expo only. Funds are not eligible to be applied toward the cost of NIRSA Annual Conference registration.
