Through small, topic-based, intentional group discussions, members can strengthen professional relationships, share knowledge and best practices, and collaborate on common challenges and goals with colleagues from across the profession.
The basics
NIRSA’s Cohort Collective brings together small groups of approximately 10 campus recreation professionals for monthly, virtual conversations over a 5–6 month experience. Each cohort centers around a shared topic or area of interest, with members helping shape the specific challenges, questions, and ideas they explore together.
The NIRSA Cohort Collective isn’t a class or presentation. Participants learn from one another by sharing experiences, exchanging ideas and resources, and working through common challenges with colleagues from across the profession.
Volunteer as a facilitator
For 2026–2027, we’re piloting a volunteer-led model. Each cohort will be guided by a NIRSA member facilitator, with NIRSA providing the structure, resources, and support needed to help facilitate meaningful conversations. This model will help us explore how Cohort Collective can grow and create more opportunities for members to connect and learn from one another in the future.
Cohort Collective facilitators guide monthly conversations, help create an engaging group experience, and build their own facilitation and leadership skills along the way. NIRSA provides resources and support—you don’t need to be the expert.

Cohorts are dedicated to key areas of campus recreation: Early Career Professionals; Mid-Level Managers; Aspiring Directors; Intramural Sports; Sport Clubs; Facilities & Operations; Fitness; Outdoor Recreation; Aquatics; Student Development & Student Employment are the topics available to NIRSA members.

Cohorts are intentionally kept small, so space is limited.
