Due to the impacts of COVID-19, NIRSA has cancelled the 2020 NIRSA School for Mid-Level Professionals, which was scheduled to take place May 17–21 in Tampa, Florida. This difficult decision was reached after careful consideration of recommendations from the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and state and federal governmental agencies as well as the significant travel restrictions in place for employees of many college and university campuses.
Options to postpone or restructure the NIRSA School were considered; however, the extensive curriculum and intense, collaborative format doesn’t lend itself to be completely reformatted on such a short timeline—especially considering School Faculty are coordinating COVID-19 responses on their own campuses and in their own personal lives—and the uncertainty posed by the COVID-19 threat makes scheduling alternate dates an unrealistic option at this time.
As our profession navigates the challenges of COVID-19, members are reminded to share resources in the NIRSA Connect platform and follow NIRSA social media channels for updates and resources. NIRSA remains committed to providing professional development opportunities to facilitate networking such as NIRSA Ideas in Motion, a series of virtual roundtables for campus recreation.
Stay healthy and please contact education@nirsa.org if you have any questions or need additional information.
