Deadlines extended for three presentation opportunities at NIRSA 2018

The deadline to submit proposals for NIRSA 2018 lightning talks, research hour, and poster presentations has been extended until October 18.

These are three unique opportunities to “Elevate Your Path” by presenting at the 2018 NIRSA Annual Conference & Campus Rec and Wellness Expo.

Lightning Talks

Lightning talks are a form of conference micro session where presenters share information in a short, thought-provoking, high-energy presentation. With a maximum of 25 slides in ten minutes, lightning talks are perfect for communicating a concise idea in an engaging and creative way. They are also a great opportunity for first time presenters to practice their public speaking skills without the pressure of a lengthy presentation!

Research Hour

The research hour is an opportunity for NIRSA members to present their research, be it part of an academic program, a thesis project, or other research project. Each presenter will have 15 minutes to present their findings, followed by five minutes for questions. The research hours will feature a moderator to keep sessions on track.

This opportunity offers attendees the chance to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Potential themes suggested by the program committee include: student development (learning outcomes, student learning), participation constraints and motivations, benefits of participation, diversity of participation, and the impact of recreation sports on student recruitment and retention.

Poster Presentations

Poster presentations showcase research and/or an institution’s campus recreation program. The maximum space provided is for a 4’x4’ poster. A successful poster should serve as a source of information, a conversation starter, and an advertisement and summary of the presenter’s work.

The posters will be on display during the majority of conference with the presenters discussing their posters for a specific hour during the conference to showcase their content and take questions from attendees.
