raised for a thriving campus rec community

On #GivingTuesday, you can strengthen our NIRSA family and its role in supporting campus rec by making a gift to the NIRSA Foundation.

Each year, more and more of you commit to the mission of the NIRSA Foundation by giving back. Over the last four years on #GivingTuesday, we’ve gone from 23 to 101 donors. This year, our goal is for at least 105 NIRSA members stand up and say, “I believe in NIRSA!”

We’re also hoping to see five new donors support their NIRSA family through our Cornerstone Society monthly giving program.

At the NIRSA Foundation, we believe in providing opportunities that support and strengthen you, the leaders of campus rec, as well as the future leaders in our field. Through gifts to the NIRSA Foundation, donors (like you!) demonstrate their commitment to a thriving future of campus rec.

“Our professional network is like no other! It is filled with exceptional people that care about their people, care about student development, and care about creating amazing opportunities for both student and professional growth!”

When you donate, you provide scholarships

Because of NIRSA Foundation donors’ dedication to professional development, to date, we have been able to support nearly 830 students and professionals to attend the NIRSA Annual Conference and Campus Rec & Wellness Expo and other NIRSA professional development events.

In 2018, the NIRSA Foundation provided almost $38,000 of scholarships and stipends thanks to the generosity of donors and Core Health & Fitness. This money funded 107 total professional development opportunities for NIRSA members.

“Your donations equated to an unforgettable first travel experience to Denver, first Annual Conference attendance, a growth of a professional network, and a feeling of undeniable pride in being a part of the NIRSA Family. For that, I THANK YOU!”

Aneury Pichardo, Assistant Director of Recreational Sports & Intramural Sports at Providence College

2018 Mark E. Fletcher Scholarship Recipient

When you donate, you provide research

You rely on the research and peer-review literature supported by NIRSA Foundation donors. In the last two years, there have been more than 37,800 downloads of full-text articles from the Recreational Sports Journal–articles that serve to advance the understanding of the role of campus rec within higher education.

Since 2016, the NIRSA Foundation has awarded $105,000 in support of research projects in the field of campus rec through the NIRSA Research Grant Program. These projects have made indelible contributions to the field and, with them, the profession and professionals can build on the knowledge and research supported by donors.

The Institutional Data Set continues to be the go-to resource for professionals needing benchmarking data. To date, nearly 400 institutions have contributed information on campus rec programs, services, and facilities. With the addition of the Salary Survey, members’ access to benchmarking data continues to grow.

“Receiving the NIRSA Research Grant helped me complete my dissertation research. The NIRSA Foundation is dedicated to moving the collegiate recreation professional forward; assisting people like me with their research is one of the greatest ways they do this. The data I received from my study not only helped me but will be helpful to the profession.”

Yvette Kell, Director of Campus Recreation at CENTERS, LLC At University of Missouri-St. Louis

2017 NIRSA Research Grant Recipient. Learn about Yvette’s research when she presents it at the 2019 NIRSA Annual Conference and Campus Rec & Wellness Expo

When you donate, you provide student officials’ development

This training program provides young officials crucial experience to meaningfully contribute to their communities – on and off the field. It’s a grassroots solution to the shortage of young officials at all levels of competition.

In the 2017-2018 season, the NSC provided training for 657 student officials at 25 events.

NIRSA Foundation donors supported training opportunities for 106 up-and-coming student officials during the 2017-2018 season at the National Basketball and Flag Football tournaments.

“I just want the donors to the student development campaign to know that their money has such an impact on myself and others that are in the NIRSA program … There’s nothing quite like it; the experience I’ve had at both the Flag Football National Tournament and the Basketball Tournament have been amazing.”

Mia Stewart, Student Coordinator at Cornell University

Student Official for Flag Football and Basketball
