The Student Organizations Institute is a chance for professionals and student organization advisors to further their understanding of advising, risk management, and student conduct among other topics. The 2015 Institute with a focus Title IX—which is occurring thanks to a partnership between NIRSA: Leaders in Collegiate Recreation, the Association of College Unions International (ACUI), the Association of Student Conduct Administration (ASCA), and the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA)—will take place in Denver, Colorado at the University of Denver from June 30-July 2. Registration for this event will open on April 1. The Institute will be able to accommodate 120 attendees.

NIRSA member Ian McGregor, president of SportRisk and a leading authority on risk management, will participate as a faculty member at this year’s institute! He has an extensive background in campus recreation and athletics—“I’ve sat in the chair,” he explains—and he is looking forward to “working with young professionals and helping them to look at risk through different eyes.” At the Institute, Ian will help attendees hone in on the risk management aspects effecting student events and organizations.

He has worked extensively with various individuals, groups, and university departments that frequently put on events, and he views “risk management as a combination of common sense, and taking response steps to prevent injury or damage.” His program will address event risk assessment, the event approval process, event planning skills, as well as how to raise awareness in event organizers and provide them with risk management training. He explains that “NIRSA members will be introduced to a new way of looking at event planning by learning how to develop a risk profile for the events and activities they organize.”

NIRSA members will not want to miss out on what is sure to be a fantastic presentation! So mark your calendars—registration for the 2015 Student Organizations Institute opens on April 1.
