Whether you’re observing National Recreational Sports & Fitness Day on the official date, February 22, or inviting students to your rec center all week long, we want to hear about it!

How do you rec?

Do you have a full-blown marketing blitz with flyer and t-shirt and blimps helping to promote activity on your campus? Or are you hosting a small community wellness class? Tell NIRSA about it so we can share the good work!

Tweet your activities with #RecDay, or send us an email with details of your events — photos are always great!

What’s Rec Day, anyhow?

It all began on February 22, 1950 when a group of passionate individuals created the National Intramural Association, which would later become NIRSA: Leaders in Collegiate Recreation. We celebrate this special moment in history — the moment that campus recreation would be destined to become a functional and critical component of higher education and student learning outcomes.

Today, National Recreational Sports & Fitness Day — commonly called “Rec Day” — is celebrated on campuses across North America. But why stop at just one day? Keep the energy going all week, and beyond!
