Keynote Speaker
Paul “Whitey” Kapsalis
2017 Sport Club Institute Keynote Speaker
Co Author/Motivational Speaker at To Chase A Dream
Paul “Whitey” Kapsalis is a former soccer player at Indiana University in the mid-80’s, where he went from walk-on to Team Captain of the #1 ranked soccer team in the country; a journey that is chronicled in a book he co-authored called “To Chase A Dream”. His second book, The Leadership Mosaic, is due out in the Fall of 2017. He is a motivational speaker, author, sales representative in the apparel industry and volunteer youth soccer coach who, in working with people of all ages, inspires them to reach for their goals every day.
In addition, Whitey is a Youth Minister and serves as Chairman of the Bigelow Advisory Board of the Pancreatic Cyst & Cancer Early Detection Center. He owned and built a soccer specialty retail business that US Soccer ranked number one in the country. Was recognized by the Indianapolis Business Journal’s “40 under 40” for his positive contributions to business and community. In 2010, Whitey was presented the Indiana Youth Soccer President’s Award and named the Indiana Sports Corporation Volunteer of the Year. He lives in Fishers, Ind., with his wife and three children.
Whitey’s keynote address, “To Chase A Dream,” tells the inspirational story of his journey from a walk-on player to team captain of the #1-ranked Indiana Hoosiers Division I soccer team. He will weave his six principles of success into the story and discuss incorporating those principles into our everyday lives as we strive to be the best we can be. Whitey will also demonstrate the tremendous impact that being a student-athlete had on his life and the fact that, regardless of the level of competition (Division I, club, intramural), the love of the game at the collegiate level can be a powerful launching pad for the next step in our professional journeys.
Closing:
Whitey’s closing address, “The Leadership Code,” will focus on the importance of leading every day, regardless of your title. It begins with a commitment to yourself and a decision to be a leader who cares more about those around you and overall results than individual acclaim. You need to be a leader with heart. This can be as simple as leaving a place better than the way you found it or as significant as changing an entire culture.

This year’s attendees have the choice between two great preconference offerings. The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center offers attendees a chance to explore over 800,000 gallons of one of the best aquariums and animal habitats in the country—experience hands-on exhibits, nature path, and marshlands, with 10,000 animals to see.
The Adventure Park at Virginia Aquarium offers a chance to experience nature from new heights! The Park has an eco-friendly zip line and aerial adventure experience in the trees above the scenic Owls Creek. “Zip” across challenge bridges that climbers navigate to get from one platform to the next.
For both activities, we will depart from the Host Hotel promptly at 1:30pm and return around 6:00pm. Lunch will be on your own, but dinner will be included! Cost is $60.

It was a great opportunity to put faces with the names of people I’ve been working with for years.
This was a great opportunity to network with the club sports administrators I work with on a daily basis. Allowed our organization to get personal feedback on the job we’re doing and how we can make our sport and interactions with their departments even better.
It was great to meet the club sport representatives and share information about my organization.

Engage
The NIRSA Collegiate Sport Club Institute delivers valuable information for a wide range of attendees
I love the small, tight knit community at the Sport Club Institute. It’s much easier to network in a smaller setting where everyone can relate to sport clubs. I really felt part of the NIRSA family at the 2015 NIRSA Collegiate Sport Clubs Institute.
I took 3 of our Sport Club Executive Board (all students), this was a great experience for them. They came away with a greater appreciation for Sport Clubs and they are FULL of ideas on ways to improve our program.

The Sport Club Institute is a great way to learn about the profession we love and network with colleagues and friends to make Sport Clubs better on our campuses. The Institute is great for young and experienced professionals and would be great for students to see what Sport Clubs have in store.
