Student health and wellbeing are essential components of the college experience, and successful campus rec departments are finding ways to make an impact beyond the walls of indoor recreation facilities. But advocating for new initiatives can be challenging even amid surging interest in outdoor fitness spaces.
Luckily, there’s significant research on the physical, social, and emotional health benefits of outdoor fitness. In the upcoming webinar “You’re the Key to a Healthy Campus” powerhouse panelists from GameTime, PlayCore, and Virginia Tech will discuss this research, present case studies of campus rec professionals championing outdoor fitness, and teach proven methods to advocate for new initiatives with a framework for quantifying results.
The webinar takes place at 2:00pm Eastern/11:00am Pacific on Thursday, September 15 and is free to NIRSA members and non-members alike. Join Russell Carson, PhD, Research and Health & Wellness Advisor at PlayCore; Jon Walker, Product Manager (Outdoor Fitness & Freestanding Play) at GameTime; and Alison Cross, Director of Recreational Sports at VA Tech, to explore:
- Research and unique benefits outdoor recreation initiatives offer campus recreation and campus communities alike
- Best practice recommendations, examples, and advocacy tips
- Real-life examples of a Healthy Campus and the successful strategies utilized for elevating the role of campus recreation
- And more!
GameTime, a NIRSA Diamond Partner, has nearly 100 years of outdoor fitness research and learnings: It’s been focused on helping communities live happier, healthier lives since 1929.
“While exhibiting at NIRSA 2022 in Portland, we heard from many recreation departments who were interested in improving health and wellness across their campuses,” says Jesse Felice, GameTime Sales and Marketing Coordinator. “We are excited to share more about the benefits of outdoor fitness equipment for students and faculty in the upcoming webinar.”
