Players at January’s NIRSA Championship Series National Flag Football Championships experienced an exciting, new opportunity in Round Rock thanks to Supporting Sponsor USA Football: Be evaluated and scouted as prospective members of a U.S. National Team.

“With NIRSA having a national presence in the flag world, it made sense for USA Football to have boots on the ground and see its championship-level flag teams in action,” Charles Torwudzo, USA Football Senior Coordinator, National Teams explained. “The event enabled us to add depth to our talented pool of flag players.”

Throughout the championship tournament, USA Football maintained a field-side booth to distribute swag, interact with participants, and scout players as the games unfolded.

“One moment that stood out to me occurred during the Women’s Championship Game when UCF’s Jenna Springthorpe caught the game-winning touchdown in overtime to defeat Florida,” Charles recalled.

A stand-out moment it was! You can catch Jenna’s moment of glory in the video below. The winning play in overtime lines up at 7:45 into the video.

Big dreams

USA Football dreams big for the future of flag football (think Olympic aspirations – literally!) and hopes NIRSA members can be a part of the story. Do you know someone who loves flag football and has a competitive spirit? USA Football is looking for athletes passionate about flag football who want to take their gameplay to the next level.

“Our U.S. Flag National Teams seek standout men’s and women’s athletes, like those we saw in Round Rock,” Charles said. “If you or someone you know has game and a dream to rep the U.S., pursue that vision.”
