The NIRSA Championship Series Unified Work Team recently released the first issue of “THE SCOOP with Collegiate Special Olympics Unified Sports®,” an email newsletter. Previously, our work team had been emailing individuals who opted-in to our Live Institutional Unified Sports Subscriber Group with updates, but felt that we had a great deal to highlight in the Unified world and one-off emails were no longer enough. We also felt a newsletter format would allow for easier sharing across various platforms.
About THE SCOOP
Our hope is to highlight in each issue a new NIRSA member institution that has been recognized as a Special Olympics Unified Champion School® or is paving the way within Collegiate Unified Sports. As more and more NIRSA institutions look to incorporate Unified Sports into their programs, we see an opportunity to highlight those institutions in not just our words but sharing their stories and pictures. We hope to capture the true essence of the Unified Sports movement.
This newsletter will also provide institutions with resources on how to start or enhance their Unified programs and will share upcoming Unified opportunities for both participants and staff. Other opportunities you can expect to see shared in THE SCOOP include upcoming tournament/event registration information, application dates for volunteer opportunities within the NIRSA Championship Series, and training/networking opportunities both within NIRSA and Special Olympics.
A big shoutout goes to Brittany Mueller, Coordinator for Intramural Sports at Florida State University and member of the Unified Work Team for her work in developing this newsletter!
