Fall is officially here and 2020 is just around the corner! No doubt your campus has a new crop of student staff members who’ve had their eyes opened to the world of recreation in higher education and so have been inspired to pursue a potential career in the field. Give them a chance for a super start out of the gate: tell them about the Next Generation of Campus Rec writing contest from Athletic Business and NIRSA.
NIRSA and Athletic Business are hoping to give eligible students a platform to share stories about their experiences with, or reflections on, working in this unique segment of the broader athletic business industry.
Contest overview
Eight students will be selected to have their article submissions published in a standard issue of Athletic Business Magazine in 2020. As contributors to Athletic Business Magazine—which has a print circulation audience of more than 40,000—students will receive ten complimentary copies of the issue with their published article along with a contributor fee of $200, among other benefits.
One student will also receive an all-expenses-paid trip to NIRSA 2020 (April 18–21 in Phoenix), including airfare, lodging, and conference registration.

Make sure to tell your students about this opportunity! Directors and other professionals, graduate assistants, and graduating seniors working in recreation are encouraged to share this opportunity with their student-employee colleagues who anticipate graduating between December 2020 and May 2021 and who are looking to stay within the industry after graduating. Marketing resources are available on the Athletic Business website.
Additional student opportunities
This is a fantastic opportunity to give your outstanding student employees a chance to shine on a national stage. It’s also a great opportunity for one student to get to NIRSA 2020 in Phoenix!
As always, additional opportunities for funding will be available through NIRSA Foundation scholarships and awards; student and professional applications are due by December 3.
