The 2017 NIRSA Collegiate Sport Club Institute Committee is excited to announce that Paul “Whitey” Kapsalis will be the opening and closing keynote speaker for the 2017 NIRSA Collegiate Sport Club Institute!

Whitey is a former soccer player from Indiana University where he went from a walk-on to team captain of the #1 ranked soccer team in the country—a journey that is chronicled in a book he co-authored called To Chase A Dream. He has authored a second book, The Leadership Mosaic, which will go on sale this fall. He is a motivational speaker, author, sales representative in the apparel industry, and volunteer youth soccer coach who—in working with people of all ages—inspires them to reach for their goals every day.

NIRSA member Mandy Madden, Assistant Director of Club Sports at the University of Notre Dame and Chair of the 2017 NIRSA Sport Club Institute Committee, knows Whitey well and says, “Whitey’s story has been such an inspiration to me both personally and professionally. He has demonstrated that no matter the odds, with hard work, dedication, and being a team player, you can achieve your goals and dreams.”

She goes on to say, “Whitey is a true example that anything is possible when you put your heart and mind into something and that leaders don’t always have to be the most athletic and skilled person on the field. The leader can be that player that earns the respect and trust, and builds an authentic rapport with his teammates that can take a team to the next level.”

Whitey is also a youth minister and serves as Chairman of the Bigelow Advisory Board of the Pancreatic Cyst & Cancer Early Detection Center. He owned and built a soccer specialty retail business that US Soccer ranked number one in the country, and The Indianapolis Business Journal recognized him as a “40 under 40” for his positive contributions to business and community. In 2010, Whitey was presented the Indiana Youth Soccer President’s Award and named the Indiana Sports Corporation Volunteer of the Year.
