Joe “Joey” Crawford, a National Basketball Association official for more than three decades, has been selected as the keynote speaker for the 2016 NIRSA Intramural Sports Institute taking place in Baltimore, Maryland from June 22–24!
During his time with the NBA, Joey has officiated 2,556 regular season games and 344 playoff games, including 50 NBA Finals games—his playoff and NBA Finals totals are the most among active NBA officials. He has appeared in 29 of the last 30 NBA Finals, and officiated the 1986, 1992, and 2000 NBA All-Star Games as well as the 1993 McDonald’s Championship in Munich, Germany. He announced his retirement at the conclusion of the 2015–2016 NBA season.
Jason Linsenmeyer, Assistant Director of Recreation Programs at Oklahoma State University and 2016 Intramural Sports Institute Committee member says, “As someone who loves the game of basketball and officiating, I am extremely excited to have someone the caliber of Joey Crawford as our keynote speaker. I feel he can help aspiring officials and colleagues by shedding light on what it takes to get to the next level. I am convinced he will draw great numbers to our conference!”
Joey will be presenting the opening keynote address on Wednesday, June 22; he will also be sitting down with attendees for an additional Q&A session following his keynote. He is yet another reason to join us in Baltimore and continue your professional development at the 2016 NIRSA Intramural Sports Institute!
