The 2016 NIRSA Intramural Sports Institute is coming to Baltimore, Maryland from June 22–24! This institute provides a wide range of educational sessions for the development of all levels of intramural programmers. This is a fantastic opportunity to represent your program at this premier intramural event!

This year’s institute theme is “Refining Our Purpose,” which is meant to emphasize digging deeper into what intramurals mean to both you and your campus. In addition to the six topic areas selected for the event, this year’s program committee has identified a few “hot topics” that they would like to see in the 2016 program:

  • Declining variety and participation in recreational sports
  • Title IX and co-rec implications for programming
  • Social media, advertising, and sponsorships
  • Transgender athlete participation and rule implications
  • Minimum wage concerns
  • Working with millennials

Hopefully these ideas get your creative juices flowing, but don’t hesitate to submit a presentation for any of the intramural topic areas. Show your colleagues what’s been working with intramurals on your campus as well as the knowledge you’ve gained from lessons learned.

In addition to the professional development you gain by presenting, student and professional lead presenters will receive a $100 voucher good towards registration fees at this event or for a future NIRSA institute or Annual Conference taking place within one year. All presenters also qualify for Professional Involvement Credits (PICs), which can be applied toward renewal in NIRSA’s Registry of Collegiate Recreational Sport Professionals.

The deadline to submit a presentation proposal—February 10—is right around the corner, so submit your presentation proposal today! You can find guidelines regarding what makes an effective proposal—as well as view the evaluation criteria used by program reviewers—on the NIRSA website. Registration for the 2016 NIRSA Intramural Sports Institute will open soon. Keep an eye on the Institute webpage—and on NIRSA’s Facebook page and Twitter handle—for the latest information!
