By Jen Gudaz, Associate Director of Recreational Services: Director of CFC at Cornell University

The extra time needed to fill a NIRSA volunteer position can be a challenge in the face of our members’ already hectic schedules. As students and professionals in collegiate recreation, our Association understands that other priorities—especially those related to education, work, and family—may prompt the need to reevaluate commitments and responsibilities.

The Member Network and the Student Leadership Team would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Andrew Doyle, former Region I Student Leader, for his laudable leadership and commitment to NIRSA’s student members. Andrew stepped down from his leadership role on September 9. We wish him the best in his academic and recreational sports career and look forward to his involvement with the NIRSA community in other capacities for years to come.

The Member Network is happy to announce that Megan Silvey, Graduate Assistant of Fitness at Boston College, will serve as the new Region I Student Leader. Megan stood for election for this position last winter and was selected last week by the Member Network to fulfill the remainder of Andrew’s term.

Megan’s passion for collegiate recreation and experience with NIRSA will help her quickly get up to speed. She began pursuing a career in campus rec as a sophomore at Oklahoma State University. She is now in her third year as an MBA candidate and Fitness Graduate Assistant at Boston College. She has been a NIRSA member for several years, attended local and national conferences, served as an engagement coordinator, and received a NIRSA Foundation scholarship this past year.

NIRSA extends a hearty welcome and thanks to Megan—we are delighted to have her enthusiasm and expertise on board!
