NIRSA members turned out in force this fall with a staggering 321 members applying for the opportunity to serve on a NIRSA committee or work team. There was a 178% increase in applicants over last year and the 321 individual applicants is a record for the Association. These figures illustrate how willing members are to give their time and energy to move the Association forward. We are fortunate to be a part of a profession that focuses on giving back!
There were roughly 270 committee and work team positions available this year, so the amount of interest in these positions was much higher than the number of opportunities to serve at the Association-wide level. The appointment process has been thoughtful and thorough and striven to involve as many members as possible in available volunteer opportunities. The appointment process will wrap up in March and announcements will be made to applicants by mid-March. Committee and work team rosters will also be posted near the NIRSA Registration Table at the 2015 Annual Conference.
Apart from NIRSA committees and work teams, there are many other opportunities to get involved with the Association. You don’t have to commit to a full term of volunteer leadership service to make a difference!
At the local level, volunteers are needed to assist with state workshops and regional educational conferences, to serve as campus Engagement Coordinators, and to assist with regional NIRSA Championship Series tournaments. Even on a daily basis, members can share their best practices and resources with peers in the Association’s Communities of Practice so that each program area has a robust and relevant resource library. There is also the opportunity to network and share information through monthly #RecChats!
Whether you’re looking to become engaged with the Association for a short period of time or on a regular basis, there are many volunteer opportunities available. Visit the Get Involved page on the NIRSA website to learn more about how you can join your peers in the Association’s tradition of service.
