Nearly 1,800 student-athletes have wowed us with their dedication, efforts, skills, and sportsmanship during this year’s battle to be crowned NIRSA National Flag Football Champions! With eleven, hard-fought regional tournaments under our belt, the final regional flag football tournament of the season will take place December 5–7 in Hattiesburg at the University of Southern Mississippi. At stake for the winners are the last automatic bids to compete in the 2014 NIRSA National Flag Football Championships, which will be hosted by the University of West Florida from January 2–4.

Those automatic bids are not the only ways, however, to get in on the action at Pensacola, FL! Registration for the 2014 NIRSA National Flag Football Championships remains open and can be accessed via the online registration site. Check the eligibility requirements and then make sure your school’s best teams—with both Collegiate and Open Divisions, there are options for Men’s, Women’s, and Co-Rec teams—don’t miss out! Participants can purchase temporary insurance for the event if they’d like. The deadline to register for the tournament is December 9.

As we prepare for the great action to come, the NIRSA Championship Series Committee would like to acknowledge and thank the following universities for stepping up to support the NIRSA National Flag Football Championships with Institutional Registrations: the University of Florida and the University of Southern Mississippi at the gold level; Georgia Southern University and Texas A&M University at the silver level; and Florida State University, Louisiana State University, and the University of Central Florida at the bronze level.

Institutional Registrations are one way for institutions to get the chance to send a professional staff member and qualified official to the NIRSA Flag Football Championships. After all, facilitating professional development is a key component of NIRSA Championship Series events. While we look forward to some nerve-wracking, nail-biting, game-time thrillers, we also know that the NIRSA Championship Series tournaments are about more than just competition.

And don’t forget that teams, spectators, officials, and NIRSA professionals can take to Twitter using the hashtag #NIRSAFlag or following the @NIRSAChamp handle during the tournament to share their experience or to see the action in real-time. And if you include NIRSA’s official Twitter handle, @NIRSAlive, in your tweet, you’ll have a chance to be retweeted to the larger NIRSA community!

We can’t wait to see all of the amazing teams at the 2014 NIRSA National Flag Football Championships in Pensacola, Florida from January 2–4. Make sure to register your team today so you don’t miss any of the action! Remember, December 9 is your last day to join this Championship Series event.
