2026 NIRSA + IDEA ® World Conference & Expo Socials

The educational sessions and intentional professional development opportunities at the NIRSA + IDEA ® World Conference & Expo are a major highlight of the week. Just as memorable, however, are the moments spent connecting with colleagues outside of formal session spaces. Throughout the conference, attendees will have several opportunities to relax, celebrate, and strengthen relationships during the event’s signature socials.

From lively evening celebrations to a morning reception honoring award recipients, these events offer meaningful ways to connect with professionals across campus recreation and the fitness industry. See some of the week’s highlights below.

All Conference Social on Tuesday, April 7

Open to all conference attendees, exhibitor representatives, and ticketed guests.

Kick-off the week by gathering with colleagues from across the profession at the All Conference Social on Tuesday evening from 6:00pm–9:00pm.

Sponsored by SportsArt, this energetic opening celebration is the perfect way to start the NIRSA + IDEA® World Conference experience. Enjoy waterfront views, reconnect with peers, and meet new colleagues as the community comes together to launch the week’s events.

NIRSA Nationals Night on Tuesday, April 7

Exciting and welcoming socials not your thing? Mark A. Mermelstein, Managing Director for the Lerner Health and Wellness Center at The George Washington University and a member of the NIRSA Conference Host Committee has secured a NIRSA ticket block for the Washington Nationals baseball game. Use this NIRSA Nationals Night link to purchase your game ticket, and you’ll receive a $26 voucher for concessions.

Founders People of Color Social on Wednesday, April 8

Open to all conference attendees and exhibitor representatives.

On Wednesday evening from 5:00pm–6:30pm, attendees are invited to gather for the NIRSA Founders People of Color Social, sponsored by PLAE. This long-standing networking event celebrates the leadership and contributions of NIRSA members who have helped shape the field of collegiate recreation.

The evening highlights initiatives that support students and professionals across the Association, including programs such as the Emerging Recreational Sports Leaders Conference, the HBCU Summit, the Founders Scholarship, and the Juliette Moore Distinguished Leadership Award.

Championship Series Social on Wednesday, April 8

Open to all conference attendees and exhibitor representatives.

Later Wednesday evening, from 7:00pm–8:30pm, the celebration continues with the NIRSA Championship Series Social, sponsored by Risk Strategies.

This relaxed gathering recognizes the volunteers, hosts, and leaders who help make NIRSA Championship Series events possible each year. Attendees will also celebrate recipients of the Sarah Fain Distinguished Service Award and inductees into the Championship Series Hall of Fame.

Join fellow attendees and partners for an evening focused on appreciation, connection, and celebration of the people behind the NIRSA Championship Series.

Decision Maker’s Social on Thursday, April 9

Open to decision makers.

Senior leaders are invited to connect with peers and exhibitors during the Decision Maker’s Social on Thursday from 9:00am–10:00am in the Expo Hall. This informal networking gathering offers directors, associate directors, and other senior-level professionals an opportunity to exchange ideas and build connections in a laid-back setting. Enjoy a Mimosa Hour sponsored by Life Fitness, while meeting with colleagues and industry partners before the Expo’ second day begins.

LGBTQ & Allies Social on Thursday, April 9

Open to all conference attendees and exhibitor representatives.

A beloved conference tradition, the LGBTQ & Allies Social takes place on Thursday from 6:00pm–7:30pm. Sponsored by PLAE, this welcoming gathering creates space for LGBTQ individuals and allies to connect and celebrate the voices that strengthen the NIRSA community. During the event, attendees will also recognize recipients of the Fredrick R. Braden Scholarship for Social Justice.

All conference attendees and exhibitor representatives are invited to participate in this evening of community, connection, and inclusion.

Awards Reception on Friday, April 10

Open to all conference attendees and exhibitor representatives.

Conference attendees kick off their final day of conference by joining the Awards Reception on Friday from 8:30am–9:30am.

This morning reception offers an opportunity to celebrate individuals whose work continues to elevate the campus recreation profession. Attendees will recognize award recipients and learn more about the contributions they have made to NIRSA and the broader field.
