NIRSA Championship Series Tournament Guidelines
The NIRSA Championship Series policies and guidelines are aimed at promoting and fulfilling a positive experience for participants and fans.
NIRSA Basketball Regional Tournaments
Teams who compete in NIRSA Regional Championship tournaments can receive a coupon for $100 off a National Championships team registration.
Registration Details
Don’t purchase plane tickets until acceptance is confirmed; team registration fees are non-refundable.
Registration
Up to 70 teams across three divisions–men’s, women’s, and Unified–will be awarded bids to compete in the NIRSA National Basketball Championships; Regional Championships tournament winners are awarded automatic bids.
Open registration runs from January 31 until March 30 with early bird discounts available through March 15. Teams from NIRSA member schools register at the lowest rates.
All registrations will be processed through IMLeagues. Please follow these steps to get your team signed up to compete for a National Championship.
- Visit the tournament page on IMLeagues.
- Select the Division you would like to register for.
- Click “Create Team.”
- Name your team and follow the prompts.
- You will be sent a link following the creation of your team to make payment through NIRSA.
- Once your team is registered payment is complete, invite each player to your team.
- Each player who accepts the invitation to join your team on IMLeagues will be prompted to sign-in or create a new account and complete all required forms.
- Every player must have health insurance to participate; every player must complete each form in IMLeagues and be on the player certification/enrollment form to be eligible to play in NIRSA’s National Championship Tournament.
Eligibility/Roster Verification
The NIRSA Championship Series requires that each team and each player complete specific forms for both the NIRSA National Championships. Forms are tournament-specific, meaning a form completed for a previous regional tournament cannot be used for this national tournament.
Forms may be submitted digitally through IMLeagues or as physical hard copies. All required forms must be completed. Required forms include:
- Team Entry
- Code of Conduct
- Accident Waiver & Release of Liability
- Player Certification/Enrollment
All fields on all forms must be completed—no exceptions will be made. Player Certification/Enrollment forms may be appealed according to appeals process guidelines.
Competition
All teams are guaranteed at least three games. Women’s and men’s teams must attend one of two captains meetings during the week before the event. Team check-in will take place in the Bakke Recreation & Wellbeing Center Conference Room from 5:00pm-7:00pm on April 16–at least one player from your team must check-in during this window.
Play begins on Friday, April 17 and Championship games will take place on Sunday, April 19: the women’s game tips-off at 11:30am, the Unified game tips-off at 1:00pm; and the men’s game tips-off at 2:30pm.

Spectators
Family and friends coming to Madison can support teams in person for a nominal admission fee for all spectators ($10 per day or $25 for the weekend). Children 12 and younger are free. Players will be required to show jerseys and coaches will be given access passes during team check-in.
