“Rec Day allows us to celebrate health, activity, competition, and inclusivity in a very intentional way. It is a tradition that we all look forward to—even more so after the year of isolation we have all had.” –University of Tennessee, Knoxville
The Association was founded on February 22, 1950 by Dr. William Wasson when he brought 20 intramural directors from 11 Historically Black Colleges and Universities together to share his research on collegiate recreation. NIRSA members all over the world now celebrate this founding date as Rec Day.
So are you ready to celebrate NIRSA’s 72nd birthday? Campus recreation departments across the country are gearing up to offer both in-person and virtual fitness, outdoor, and sports opportunities. It’s time to promote wellness and all that rec has to offer!
So let us know if your department is participating in Rec Day 2021—take the pledge and let us know how you’re planning to recreate. Include the #RecChat hashtag in your tweet or Instagram post and make sure to tag @NIRSALive so we get a chance to learn all about your plans.
Courtesy of Club Colors, departments can now celebrate Rec Day in style with customized T-shirts and other gear. Download the order form here and make sure to place your order before February 3 to ensure your swag arrives in time for the festivities!
