The NIRSA Flag Football Editorial Board
The NIRSA Flag & Touch Football Rules Book & Officials’ Manual was first published in 1983. Its purpose is to provide a standardized code of Rules, interpretations and officials’ mechanics for the sport of flag and touch football. The NIRSA FFB Editorial Board is responsible for updating and revising the biennial publication which provides a standardized code of Rules, interpretations and officials’ mechanics for the sport of flag and touch football.
The NIRSA Flag Football Editorial Board has the capacity for 12 members, serving staggered two to four year terms.
NIRSA is currently recruiting for the NIRSA Manual Editorial Board.

Editorial Board Charges
The NIRSA Flag Football Editorial Board has the capacity for 12 members, serving staggered two to four year terms. Nicole Green-Valentine, University of Michigan is the Chair of the Editorial Board (2015-2017).
In its first year (2015-16), the inaugural Editorial Board will be charged with developing a process for recruitment, application, and appointment of future Editorial Boards and members.
- Approximately 50% of the membership remains consistent and 50% of membership rotates every-two-years;
- Terms shall rotate with the 2-year Rulebook editorial process and application, nomination, and appointment shall follow the Leadership Recruitment Process, as established by the NIRSA;
- This process shall reflect the NIRSA Strategic Values and diversity of the membership.
In its first year (2015-16), the inaugural Editorial Board will also establish guidelines for the review and editing process. Such a process may include, but is not limited to, the following:
- All NFHS Rulebook changes to be considered;
- All NFHS Officiating Mechanics changes to be considered;
- Suggestions for edits, rules changes, mechanics changes to be considered;
- Voting process to include all 12 FFB Editorial Board Members.
In its second year (2016-17), the inaugural Editorial Board will use the established processes to edit the rule book scheduled for publication March 2017.
Editorial Board Position Requirements and terms

- Application preferences
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Have officiating experience with flag football or other related sport
- Responsibilities
- Appoint Editorial Board using established application and review process
- Schedule meetings / conference calls
- Collect rulebook suggestions
- Communicate with Editorial Board members
- Serve as liaison to NIRSA Board of Directors, and Human Kinetics for print materials
- Serve as the spokesperson of the Editorial Board
- Develop electronic files, documents, etc. to share materials

- Editor may apply for a second-term.
- Must be a NIRSA Professional Member (includes Life & Emeritus)

- Responsibilities
- Serve on staff at the NIRSA Championship Series National Flag Football Tournament
- Will review and present NFHS rules changes

- OFFICIALS’ MANUAL EDITOR (1)

- Football, flag football, or other officiating experience (preferred)
- NIRSA STUDENT MEMBER (1)
- Position requirements
- Two-year appointment
- Graduate or Undergraduate student standing at the time of application
- Must be a NIRSA Student Member at the time of application (or obtain NIRSA Student Membership by the start or Editorial Board start)
- Application preferences
- Preference for candidate who will provide a minimum of 12-months remaining as enrolled student with understanding that the person may graduate during their 2-year-term on the Editorial Board
- Experience officiating or serving on staff at the NIRSA National Championship Series National Flag Football Tournament (preferred)
- Football, flag football, or other officiating experience (preferred)
