After thoughtfully considering the work required for establishing a new region, the Canadian Leadership Team made recommendations to the NIRSA Board of Directors for a temporary modification to the regional representative structure.
Thursday, February 23 has been designated “Canada Day” at NIRSA 2017 and to commemorate the occasion, Canada-specific educational sessions, a Canadian leadership summit, and a Canadian Celebration Social will all take place at NIRSA 2017.
Earlier this week, the NIRSA Board of Directors took the final step required by the Association’s Regional Composition Policy and, with the passing of a resolution, formally established Canada as a distinct region of NIRSA!
NIRSA's 2017 elections successfully came to a close on January 30. Proposed amendments to NIRSA’s Bylaws passed overwhelmingly by member vote.
The NIRSA Board recently approved a Regional Composition Policy, outlining the process for states, provinces, or countries to request changes to their regional alignment and outlining a process for forming a distinct, new NIRSA region. The policy requires changes to NIRSA Bylaws to take effect.

This spring, the NIRSA Board of Directors appointed eight volunteer members to serve with a member of the NIRSA Headquarters team on the newly-constituted NIRSA Canadian Region Task Force.
