The Registry of Collegiate Recreational Sports Professionals is the most meaningful distinction for professionals who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in the field of collegiate recreational sports through active learning and continuing professional development.

Becoming a Registered Collegiate Recreational Sports Professional demonstrates that you have successfully reached the criteria set forth by the Registry Commission and that you are dedicated to continuous learning for your own growth and to the benefit the entire profession of collegiate recreation.

Application Preparation

Before beginning the application process, be sure to read the Professional Registry application criteria and compile the following:

  • A resume or similar document that lists your past job titles and responsibilities, as well as years of employment
  • A list of CEUs you have earned in the past three years from NIRSA and other events. Learn about CEUs.

Application Processing Timeline

Applications can be submitted at any time. Submitted applications are reviewed by NIRSA HQ between the 1st and 15th days of each month. The application fee will be processed and applicants will be notified of their renewal acceptance or outstanding eligibility requirements between the 15th and 21st days of the month. Renewing RCRSP professionals will be mailed their new certificates in the final week of each month. Letters notifying the supervisors of renewing RCRSP professionals will be sent upon request.

Application Fees

The application fee covers your first three years of inclusion in the Professional Registry. After three years, you must submit a renewal application and fee. The application fee is due at the time the application is submitted.

  • NIRSA Professional or Student Member from a Member Institution: $195
  • NIRSA Professional or Student Member from a Nonmember Institution: $245
  • Non-NIRSA member from a Member Institution; Associate Member: $360
  • Non-NIRSA member from a Nonmember Institution; non-Associate member: $410

Maintaining Your Registry Status

The renewal period is every three years. During that time the minimum number of CEUs required for renewal is 45 contact hours (4.5 CEUs). Of the CEUs earned, 1/3 (1.5 CEUs) must be obtained from NIRSA-provided educational opportunities.

CEU requirements for renewal application may also consist of Professional Involvement Credits (PICs). Up to 2/3 of CEUs can be supplanted with PICs. Of submitted PICs, at least 1/2 of all PICs earned for leadership, governance, and service must come from NIRSA-related activities. PICs for education, training, scholarship, and research may be earned from any NIRSA or non-NIRSA source.
