Interactive Fitness Holdings (IFH), a NIRSA associate member and Campus Recreation & Wellness exhibitor since 2011, recently announced that its assets and intellectual property are acquired by Blue Goji. Many NIRSA members may be familiar with IFH’s Expresso exercise bikes, which will be managed by Blue Goji going forward.

“Expresso bikes were the first, original connected cardio equipment,” Blue Goji CEO Coleman Fung said in the announcement. “Many of their innovative features – interactive games, virtual trails with steering, shifting and dynamic resistance, and its community-building tournaments – continue to lead the market today.” Hundreds of college and university students have logged tens of thousands of hours on Expresso bikes in friendly intercollegiate competitions over the years.

What does this mean for NIRSA member schools?

Blue Goji is a health and wellness technology company, and the acquisition of IFH allows it to pursue further innovation in fitness gamification and active eGaming. Blue Goji’s mission is gamification of health or, more precisely, “embodied gaming.”

Campus rec centers using IFH products can rest assured that Blue Goji will provide resources to assist IFH’s existing partners and end-users, as well as honor original warranties and support services.

College and university rec centers—and especially NIRSA members, as leaders in collegiate recreation—are a key demographic for Blue Goji going forward, with new products and services that drive student engagement in rec centers through eSports.
