Fall is officially here and 2020 is just around the corner! Despite the coronavirus pandemic and in the face of uncertainty for the future, your campus undoubtedly has a new crop of student staff members who’ve had their eyes opened to the world of recreation in higher education and who have been inspired to pursue a potential career in the field. Give them a chance for a super start out of the gate: tell them about the Next Generation of Campus Rec writing contest from Athletic Business and NIRSA.

Contest overview

As part of Athletic Business and NIRSA’s commitment to nurturing the future generation of campus recreation professionals, we are looking for junior, senior and graduate-level students working in campus rec and are looking to stay within the industry post-graduation.

Eligible students are invited to submit an article by October 16 based on their experience working for their institution’s rec department, the impacts of college recreation programming on the student body or the future of college rec. Then, AB and NIRSA will select the top eight articles to appear in each standard issue of Athletic Business for the following year.

On top of bragging rights for being published in a highly regarded industry magazine, each winner will also get to do a takeover of AB’s Instagram account for one day in the month of their published article and receive a free full-conference pass to AB Show 2021 (Oct. 27-30 in San Antonio), with one grand prize winner receiving $200.

Athletic Business and NIRSA are dedicated to helping campus recreation professionals succeed, and a big part of that success is looking ahead to the next generation and preparing emerging campus recreation professionals for their future roles. That’s why we’re excited to highlight eight outstanding students who are looking forward to a career in campus recreation.

We believe that these students have a fresh perspective on the industry and we want to allow them a platform to share their insights and experience working in the field. If you have a student staff member who goes above and beyond and is looking forward to a career in campus recreation, invite them to submit their entry for this fantastic opportunity from NIRSA and Athletic Business to tell their story to a national audience; they might just win full registration to the AB Show 2021 in San Antonio.
