NIRSA will hold elections this winter for President-Elect and At-Large Director on the Board of Directors as well as for the following Member Network positions: NIRSA Student Leader, regional student leaders in all regions, and regional representatives for Regions II, IV, and VI.

“Serving is important to me. I am excited to be on the Board and give back to an organization that has provided so much for my development as a student and as a professional over the last twenty years,” says Cara Lucia, PhD, Associate Professor of Sports Management at Elon University and President-Elect. “As a full-time faculty member at Elon University, I cherish the opportunity to be a member of the NIRSA Board whose goal is to provide substance, reach, and relevancy of what we do as a profession.”

NIRSA’s dedicated and outstanding members are the driving force of the organization—and so the NIRSA Nominations & Appointments Committee wants your help to fill these important  and influential positions with talented, thoughtful, and dedicated leaders who will help drive our Association forward.

Serving as a NIRSA leader not only benefits the Association, it leads to personal and professional growth. Scott Vandermoon, Associate Director at CENTERS, LLC at DePaul University and former Region III Representative, shares that “being able to serve on the Member Network has been one of the most impactful experiences I have had as a member of NIRSA. I am grateful for the opportunity to do work that is meaningful for the members of our association. I am even more grateful for the relationships I was able to build within and outside of Region III.”

Application process

If you’re interested in one of the available NIRSA Board of Directors’ positions, please apply by submitting an initial interest form and a resume to elections@nirsa.org. Board of Directors initial applications and resumes are due by Thursday, October 3. “Being on the Board gives me the ability to further demonstrate our influence in collegiate recreation, higher education, and society through various communities I engage in be it my home institution, universities in and out of state, or various higher education partners,” adds Cara.

The deadline for the  NIRSA Student Leader position is Thursday, November 7. Regional student leader positions for all regions will also be due on Thursday, November 7. Students interested in either of these opportunities should submit a full application to elections@nirsa.org by the November 7 deadline. The detailed recruitment and application process can be found on the NIRSA Member Network webpage. “Without a doubt, this experience has been the highlight of my time as a NIRSA member,” says Scott.

Encourage emerging leaders in your region to apply

If you know a NIRSA member who would be an excellent fit for one of these roles, please consider making a recommendation by sending an email to any member of the NIRSA Nominations & Appointments Committee with the members’ name(s) and institution(s).  The committee will contact recommended candidates to assess their interest and discuss the application process.
