Many NIRSA members ask how they can get more involved in the Association or how they can get involved in a new way. I’m happy to say that I have the answer for you all. The NIRSA Championship Series has a great opportunity for member institutions looking to get more involved: applications to host regional soccer tournaments across the country are now open!

NIRSA soccer—and soccer in general—has grown so much in the past year that we’re looking to diversify the events that we currently offer. Soccer is a NIRSA staple and the Championship Series is proud of the historical events we have hosted as well as the events that are in their first year—both help drive our profession to new heights. We encourage all interested member institutions to consider hosting the growing sport of soccer.

Member institutions may use this opportunity to explore what capabilities your facilities may have to host medium and large events as our regional tournaments range in size. Just like for flag football and basketball, many NIRSA regions host multiple regional soccer tournaments in hopes of serving students all across the country.

We don’t have professional prerequisites to host; the only requirements are of adequate facility space and amenities. We are looking to diversity our professional development volunteer opportunities this year and reach areas like facilities, events, membership, and operations. We ask that those completing the host application form have support from their universities prior to doing so, but we don’t have any restrictions on who can complete these applications and potentially serve as a host.

This is a huge step for the NIRSA Championship Series in aligning with NIRSA values of leadership and equity, diversity, and inclusion. Applications for hosting a site close Monday, April 16, so apply online today to serve your region and develop your staff!
