Recognize the dedication of your NIRSA Family colleagues and mentors by nominating one for the NIRSA Foundation Leadership Award! For the first time since the award’s inception in 2013, the nominations will be accepted from the entire NIRSA membership.

“Now that the NIRSA Foundation Leadership Award is well established, the NIRSA Foundation Board of Directors felt it appropriate and inclusive to invite our entire membership to nominate deserving colleagues,” explains Greg Jordan, member of the NIRSA Foundation Board of Directors, Chair of the NIRSA Foundation Leadership Award Committee, and Director of Campus Recreation at Oakland University.

The award recognizes an individual or group that has demonstrated outstanding dedication to the NIRSA Foundation and its mission through exceptional contributions of time, talent, and treasure. It distinguishes those who have provided leadership to the Association through active participation in fulfilling the NIRSA Foundation’s important work of providing support and meaningful opportunities for leaders in collegiate recreation. Last year, the recipient was Stan Campbell, Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Director of Campus Recreation at University of Nebraska.

“It is an honor to have been selected as the 2017 NIRSA Foundation Leadership Award recipient. NIRSA has provided me with the professional development opportunities, contacts, friendships, and access to vendors that have greatly assisted my career,” says Stan.

He goes on to say, “I strongly believe I would not be where I am today without the assistance of NIRSA. Therefore, I agree wholeheartedly with the NIRSA Foundation’s motto of ‘supporting today, ensuring tomorrow.’ I’m pleased to be in a position where I can assist the NIRSA Foundation to ensure students and professionals have the opportunity to continue to develop their knowledge, skills, and competencies.”

Previously, nominations were only made by NIRSA Foundation Board members. Greg and the rest of the NIRSA Foundation Board of Directors hope that opening the nominations up to the entire membership will expand the candidate pool. “One of the most rewarding experiences I enjoy is reading nominations of colleagues for awards,” Greg says. “It’s so exciting to see the wonderful work that some many of our NIRSA family members provide each and every year.”

To Greg, nominating peers for NIRSA awards is a key part of NIRSA membership. “It is important to recognize the value of volunteer service in our NIRSA. We see so many people doing wonderful things that we should take the time to nominate a colleague, a student, or a co-worker,” he says. “There are well over 100 awards and scholarships provided each year through NIRSA, be it at the national, regional or state level. So please nominate a colleague!”

The NIRSA Foundation Leadership Award was first presented at the 2013 NIRSA Annual Conference where Darcy and Bob Bingham were honored for their extraordinary commitment to the NIRSA Foundation through contributions and participation in fundraising events and volunteer groups. Other past recipients are Tom Dison (2014), Dave Koch (2015), Will Holsberry (2016), and Stan Campbell (2017).

Honor an outstanding individual or group who has made a significant difference to the future of our profession and our NIRSA Family by nominating them for the NIRSA Foundation Leadership Award! The award will be presented at the 2018 NIRSA Annual Conference & Campus Rec & Wellness Expo.
