NIRSA Championship Series club basketball is excited to announce the addition of seven new teams and two new divisions this season. With these additional divisions, there are now even more opportunities for student and professional development. Club Basketball Work Team Chair and Assistant Director of Competitive Sports at University of Wisconsin-Madison Ashley Lax is “excited to announce the expansion of the NIRSA Club Basketball Conference. With the recent growth in interested universities and clubs, these leagues are becoming an increasingly-important platform for student and professional development. More importantly, this growth will provide increased opportunities for participants, officials, and professionals moving forward and helps align the Club Basketball Conference with the other NIRSA Championship Series events.”

This year, we are introducing club regionals, a new feature specific to the NIRSA Club Basketball Conference. Club regionals are smaller weekend events whose sole purpose is to facilitate conference games. Conference play is set to begin in the spring for all divisions. Club teams can expect between 4-6 games per club regional, as well as the NIRSA Regional Basketball Championship of their choice. Clubs will travel as far as six hours to reach regional play. Club regional sites for each conference will be announced soon—details are still being hashed out.

The divisions are as follows:

Men’s Midwest

  • Creighton University
  • Michigan Tech
  • Northern Kentucky University
  • Truman State University
  • University of Wisconsin-Madison

Men’s Northeast

  • Adelphi University
  • Hobart and William Smith Colleges
  • Marist University
  • John’s University
  • University of Connecticut

Women’s Midwest
