The Women’s Leadership Institute, held this year at the Ritz Carleton in Laguna Nigel, Dana Point, CA from December 2-5, serves two goals:

  • To give women in the field of higher education and student affairs information and support toward their pursuit of executive leadership positions on campus
  • To increase the knowledge-base of all partner organizations about topics related to being a woman working on college campuses

NIRSA Educator-in-Residence

Due to the extremely positive feedback received last year, the Educator-in-Residence program is returning for a second year. NIRSA professional member and Director of Campus Recreation at San Francisco State University, Pam Su, will be an Educator-in-Residence.

Pam is the Co-chair of the NIRSA Commission for Sustainable Communities and former Chair of the NIRSA Sustainability Committee and NIRSA’s Liaison to the Higher Education Associations Sustainability Consortium (HEASC), as well as the former Director of the Sustainable Enterprise Conference Steering Committee.

Pam and her fellow Educators-in-Residence will attend the full institute program and guide discussion groups and round tables with assigned attendees as a well as with the entire population of participants.

Keynote Speakers

The 2014 Women’s Leadership Institute will also feature two outstanding keynote speakers:

Internationally acclaimed author, speaker, and consultant Sally Helgesen will be the Opening Keynote speaker. Sally is an expert in developing and delivering leadership programs as well as working toward inclusive work communities on an international level. Among her many accomplishments, Sally is a contributing editor to strategy+business magazine and a member of the New York and International Women’s Forums. Articles about her work have been featured in FortuneThe New York TimesFast Company, and Business Week.

The 2014 Closing Keynote speaker, Dr. Phyllis Wise, Chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is the chief executive officer and is responsible for the financial programs, campus policies, and priorities necessary to ensure that Illinois remains a preeminent public research university with a land-grant mission and global impact. The university is renowned for its interdisciplinary collaborations, advances in human understanding, community outreach, global partnerships, and life-changing scientific developments. Dr. Wise is actively performing research in issues concerning women’s health and gender-based biology. She holds positions on the governing boards of Nike, Inc., Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and First Busey Corporation.
