At the 2013 NIRSA Annual Conference, the NIRSA Foundation introduced a new award to honor those who has made exceptional contributions to the mission of the NIRSA Foundation.

The NIRSA Foundation Leadership Award will be awarded annually in recognition of an individual or couple who has provided leadership to the Association through their active participation in fulfilling the NIRSA Foundation’s important work of providing support and opportunities for leaders in collegiate recreation.

The inscription on the plaque reads: “In appreciation for contributions of time, talent and treasure to the NIRSA Foundation.” The inaugural recipients, Darcy and Bob Bingham, have been a role model in all three areas.

Bob and Darcy have lead by example with a strong commitment to encouraging NIRSA Students to get in the habit of giving back early, often making contributions in the name of students. After the initial contribution made in their names, students often perpetuate the giving cycle once they became a professional.

When the Community Service Project was first developed at the 2011 Annual Conference in New Orleans, Darcy and Bob enthusiastically hopped onto the bus of volunteers, ready to give their time. Since the inception of the Mark Fletcher Fun/Run, Darcy has been an advocate and participant to promote wellness, as well as honor a dear NIRSA colleague. Darcy also has provided her talent by serving for six years as a Board member, and one year as the Chair, of the NIRSA Foundation. She continues to serve on committees and work teams established by the NIRSA Foundation to enhance its mission and goals. In past years, Darcy and Bob have matched the total gifts from our members in past years, which has encouraged us to stretch our annual goals. The Bingham’s continue to make a positive impact on the NIRSA community through their leadership and commitment to the Association’s values and scholarly pursuits.

Please join us in thanking Darcy and Bob Bingham for their outstanding leadership to the NIRSA Foundation!
