The NIRSA Services Corporation (NSC), a wholly owned subsidiary of NIRSA, was formed in 1999 to develop, guide, and implement marketing opportunities through collegiate recreation and manage NIRSA sport tournaments.
NSC is the innovation arm of the organization. The NSC Board of Directors are entrepreneurial in spirit, focused on economic development through a range of revenue-generating programs and products that benefit campus recreation. Oversight includes Campus Activations, Bluefishjobs.com, and the NIRSA Championship Series.
The NSC Board is committed to cultivating enduring partnerships that directly advance our association’s mission and enrich the value of membership. As a board member, you’ll play a pivotal role in fostering relationships that not only support NIRSA’s vision but also elevate the student experience and strengthen campus recreation departments across the country. Your leadership will help ensure that our collaborations deliver meaningful resources and opportunities to our members, driving innovation and excellence in collegiate recreation.
The NSC Board is purpose-driven, applying an intentional, considerate and transparent approach to recruitment. This is an approach that will ensure the Board is representative and inclusive of the community it serves.
NIRSA Services Corporation board member expectations
Board members act as the primary ambassadors for the NSC Board, fulfilling all duties and obligations with the utmost professionalism while upholding the mission, goals, objectives, and ideals of the Board.
Specific expectations include:
- Uphold the mission of the NSC Board and its parent organization, NIRSA
- Demonstrate a committed, curious, and active interest in NSC programs and events
- Commit to serving a three-year term
- Attend and participate in monthly videoconference meetings of the Board
- Balance the requirements of being a volunteer leader with the expectations of your primary job responsibilities
- Maintain current, active NIRSA membership in the Professional, Professional Life, or Emeritus category throughout the term
Qualifications and competencies needed to serve on the NIRSA Services Corporation Board of Directors
- Current Professional, Professional Life, or Emeritus membership
- Five years in an administrative/management position with direct experience in:
- Budget development and budget accountability
- Supervision of staff and volunteers
- Event management
- Experience with sponsorship programs—corporate or otherwise—and/or sales as they relate to campus and organization-wide activations and growth
