The past few weeks have been a struggle. I have always had a hard time dealing with hate, racism, and bigotry. I have always experienced it—and that probably won’t change anytime soon.
Recently, I’ve been able to take a step back and realize what mistakes teach us. I no longer view mistakes as signs of defeat. Instead, I view them as signs of growth.
I always knew what kind of person I wanted to be. It was always in the back of my mind and never too far from my immediate thoughts.
I have always been drawn to the word “elevate.” In my mind, the definition is simple: it means to rise, to progress to the next level, to grow.
In my first post as your NIRSA Student Leader, I would like to ask you to take time to analyze and find out what balance means to you.
