Start your 2023 NIRSA Annual Conference experience with one of the many fantastic preconference workshops! This year’s preconference workshops are a mix of popular returning sessions and exciting new events.

Students will have a chance to participate in the “J. Michael Dunn Student Professional Development Workshop” for the first time since 2019 and interested supervisors have access to the “Student Staff Development Workshop.” The “Women Leading Women Workshop” is also returning to the preconference lineup. The “Mid-Level Professionals Workshop” is one of our new preconference offerings. The Program Committee anticipates it will provide attendees with the skills necessary to tackle knowledge gaps that may have grown over the last several years regarding topics like influencing change, budgeting, and making critical decisions.

Another new preconference workshop, brought to you by generous sponsorship from the NIRSA Foundation, is ”A Long Talk About the Uncomfortable Truth.” This is an anti-racism activation experience filled with active participation, role playing, and honest introspection regarding the duration, violence, and intentionality of the systems of oppression that have existed in the United States since its inception. The NIRSA Foundation is making this workshop free of charge for participants, but space is limited! For more information on how to take advantage of this incredible opportunity, visit the NIRSA 2023 preconference workshops webpage.

And that’s just day one! No matter where you are in your campus recreation career, we believe you’ll gain a lot from this year’s program. The content will continue to build on the good work being done on campuses regarding all kinds of hot topics in higher education—including equity, diversity, and inclusion; wellbeing; and leadership. Popular programming topics like aquatics, fitness, intramural and club sports, and outdoor recreation will also be discussed. We’re excited about bringing back several wonderful roundtables this year. Check out all the exciting session details!

Each day of NIRSA 2023 will kick off with an unopposed mainstage speaker (more information coming soon)! On Friday, take advantage of Breakfast and Connections; it’s a great opportunity to interact with the great minds in our association and share your passion for collegiate recreation! Be sure to check the Breakfast and Connections box when registering for the conference. The Student Leadership Team will be pairing individuals before we all head to Pittsburgh.

In addition to the great learning opportunities, we’re also planning socials, awards celebrations, facility tours, fitness classes, a bustling Career Services Center, networking opportunities, and an exceptional expo! For more details on all that NIRSA 2023 has to offer, check out the NIRSA 2023 website.
