NIRSA’s current strategic plan is set to culminate later this year. Since summer 2020, the NIRSA Board of Directors—in conjunction with the Member Network Chair, the NSC President, and the NIRSA Foundation President—have been hard at work planning for the next iteration of the Association’s strategic plan.

In November, this planning group met with 16 partner groups as a part of their environmental scanning and to hear member feedback about what they need from their association and how they see the landscape of campus recreation adapting in the years ahead. These November meetings also included an open-to-all-members Ideas in Motion session hosted by Jocelyn Hill, Director of Recreational Sports & Fitness at American University.

After incorporating and considering all member feedback, the strategic planning group is planning to reach out to members again throughout January and early February. They are seeking feedback on a draft of the next strategic plan’s priorities.

For a refresher on the current strategic plan’s priorities, you can find it here on the NIRSA website.

Get involved

If you’re a part of a leadership group that provided feedback in November, your group will be asked to give feedback again.

You can also provide feedback by attending one of the NIRSA Caucuses during January or February.

All members are invited to attend an open Ideas in Motion session. In this round, there will be three sessions, broken up by career-level, to help hear from more member voices.

New(er) professionals are invited to join NIRSA Board member and Director of Programs & Facilities at Kennesaw State University Nigel Harris on February 2 at 11:00am PT. Mid-level professionals are invited to join NIRSA Board member Jocelyn Hill on January 26 at 12:00pm PT. Executive-level professionals are invited to join NIRSA President Elect and Director of Campus Recreation and Wellness at the University of South Carolina Aiken Mila Padgett on February 5 at 9:00am PT. Students are invited to join NIRSA Board member and Director of Recreational Sports at Virginia Commonwealth University Derek Hottell, with support from the Student Leadership Team, on January 25 at 12:00pm PT

Registration for these sessions will be open soon on the Ideas in Motion page.

You can find the draft priorities, as well as the discussion questions that will be used during each of the feedback sessions, here in the NIRSA Connect library.
