Region II Excellence Scholarship Selection Committee Chair Jeff Feldhaus, Assistant Director of Intramural Sports at Virginia Tech, was amazed by the incredible work these students are doing within the NIRSA community.
“Each individual shows so much promise for the future, and I can’t thank them enough for taking an active role within our field,” Jeff says. “They are—without a doubt—the future of our community and tomorrow’s ‘Leaders in Collegiate Recreation.’”
These students and other NIRSA Foundation scholarship recipients can be found on our past recipients webpage.
Exciting NIRSA Foundation opportunities at the regional level
Awarded from the Region II Excellence Endowment, these scholarships cover registration fees for students to attend the Region II Conference. These are the first regional conference scholarship opportunities supported by a NIRSA Foundation endowment.
“Often times regional conferences are more feasible for students to attend, so we believe this is a valuable experience to provide to students,” NIRSA Foundation Board Member Shomari Kee says. “Our hope is that more regions are able to follow this model and provide opportunities for students to attend regionals.”
The endowment was established in 2018 from a combination of efforts by Region II members, Region II Leadership, the Region II Finance and Sponsorship Committee, and NIRSA Foundation Board members. Jeff expresses endless gratitude to the many committees and individuals involved in the process “from conceptualization to execution.”
“It speaks volumes that so many people can collaborate and integrate to reach a positive outcome,” he continues. “More important than that, it’s encouraging to know that at the end of it all, it is our undergraduate and graduate students that benefit from the work.”
