Independent socials are great places for NIRSA members to connect over similar backgrounds and interests. The long-standing tradition of independent socials is an important part of the NIRSA Annual Conference & Recreational Sports Expo experience. Independent socials provide attendees with unique opportunities to network and socialize in smaller, more personal groups—and NIRSA’s dynamic, member-driven culture makes these events very popular.

NIRSA regions, states, vendors, and individual institutions have all hosted exciting independent socials at past NIRSA Annual Conferences. And so we invite you to consider hosting an independent social at NIRSA 2015 where the charming town of Grapevine will provide the perfect background for any event!

The evening of Wednesday, April 1 is an ideal time to host or attend an independent social since no other NIRSA 2015 events are scheduled then. If you’re interested in planning an independent social, or would like assistance with recommended venues, please contact NIRSA’s Assistant Director of Event Management, Sierra Smith.

And let us help spread word about your event as well! Your social’s details can be included in the conference program if you submit the following information to NIRSA’s Professional Development Coordinator, John Raskauskas, by January 14:

  • Your contact information
  • The social’s host, location, and time
  • Whether it’s a private or open event

We look forward to seeing you at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine from March 30–April 2. Remember, your independent social could play a key role in “Moving our Values Forward” at NIRSA 2015!
