Every year, NIRSA recognizes remarkable NIRSA Member Institution facilities with the honor of an Outstanding Sport Facility Award. Every three years, the Association adds an outdoor facilities category to the list, and 2018 is a year for this addition. This award recognizes the innovative designs of new, renovated, or expanded collegiate recreational facilities—both indoor and outdoor.
Facilities and spaces that apply must demonstrate excellence in a number of categories including functionality, sustainability, architectural design, and how well the space meets the intended purpose. The committee looks for exceptional applications with a collaborative effort between the school and the architectural firm.
Awards will be presented at the 2019 NIRSA Annual Conference & Campus Recreation and Wellness Expo occurring this February in Boston, Massachusetts. Eligibility requirements and criteria are listed on the NIRSA website and the application submission deadline is Thursday, November 8.
