Giving isn’t a business transaction. It’s a human connection. I began giving to the NIRSA Foundation as an undergraduate student after my first Annual Conference experience in 2013. The connections I made at that conference solidified collegiate recreation as my career path and have helped get me to where I am today as a young professional. The NIRSA family serves as a support system to celebrate my achievements and successes, and to extend a boost of confidence and a warm hug in times of tribulation.

My involvement in the NIRSA Foundation makes me feel connected to others and helps build my network. Giving back to a NIRSA family that gives altruistically brings meaning to my life. The gentle encouragement from a favorite family member has also been vastly influential in my decision to donate monthly to the Foundation.

As a 2018 Frederick R. Braden Scholarship for Social Justice recipient, I want others to have the same educational and networking opportunities beneficial for personal and professional development. It’s imperative that we continue to ensure the Foundation is thriving, lucrative, and supportive of the future of our profession. Research shows that giving to others can actually make us healthier, so what are you waiting for? Improve your wellbeing by making a gift to the NIRSA Foundation at NIRSA 2018!

My call for action to fellow young professionals is a challenge for you and your NIRSA mentor! Call them up or shoot them a text or email asking them:

  1. What does the NIRSA family mean to you?
  2. Tell me about an inspirational moment you experienced at a NIRSA event.

I guarantee these conversations will have you wanting to give to the NIRSA Foundation—if you aren’t already! The good news is that giving is contagious! Let the NIRSA Foundation fever hit you this season instead of the flu. Come elevate the NIRSA family by making a donation—you can do this on your phone, or by visiting the NIRSA Foundation table or the brand-new donation kiosk. I, as well as any member of the NIRSA Foundation Board of Directors, would love the opportunity to talk to you more about the Foundation. We can’t wait to see you at NIRSA 2018!
