Join the NIRSA Foundation on November 28, 2017, in celebrating campus rec and creating more opportunities for our NIRSA family by making a gift on #GivingTuesday. #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving aimed at encouraging philanthropy worldwide and harnessing the collaborative power of people working together to improve their communities.
“NIRSA is a wonderful provider of opportunities, not just for professionals and students, but for everyone’s lives that they touch through their work in recreation.”
– Cora-Ann Licwinko, 2017 NIRSA Foundation scholarship recipient
The NIRSA Foundation has set two goals for #GivingTuesday this year: to see at least 100 donors supporting their NIRSA family and to raise $8,000 for the future of campus rec. We encourage campus rec students and professionals to show their support for the profession and their NIRSA family by giving what they can. As 2017 Region I Scholarship recipient Demitri Lahanas says, “The future starts with you!”
Last year, our #GivingTuesday sponsor Hughes Group Architects matched contributions up to $2,000, and this year, they want to see you up your game. They will match donations, dollar-for-dollar, up to $2,500! If 100 members donate $25 on #GivingTuesday, we’ll have already raised $5,000 for our NIRSA family thanks to Hughes Group Architects’ match, and we’ll be more than halfway to our goal of $8,000.
If you’re going to the 2018 NIRSA Annual Conference & Campus Rec and Wellness Expo, be sure to help us express our gratitude to Hughes Group Architects by visiting their booth at the Expo and saying thanks!
Your donations strengthen communities
The NIRSA Foundation’s mission is to provide NIRSA members with meaningful opportunities for scholarship, research, and personal and professional development. Each year, your donations allow the NIRSA Foundation to offer an increasing number of scholarships to NIRSA professional development events.
Your donations support NIRSA research initiatives, such as benchmarking and the Institutional Data Set, the NIRSA Research Grant Program, and the publication of the Recreational Sports Journal. Your donations also help relieve the nationwide shortage of young officials by training student officials at National Championship Series events.
When you donate to the NIRSA Foundation, you help provide opportunities that support and strengthen your NIRSA family and campus rec communities. Through gifts to scholarships, research initiatives, and student officials’ development, you demonstrate your commitment to the current and future leaders of campus rec and to the thriving future of our profession.
As 2017 Jennifer R. de-Vries Scholarship recipient Marissa Allen says, “If NIRSA and the NIRSA family have taught me anything, it’s this: don’t give until it hurts, give until it feels good.”
