Part of what makes the NIRSA Annual Conference the seminal event for our association is the way that this professional development opportunity brings together all of our members, from retired professionals to newly emerging student leaders.

It’s important that the NIRSA community helps younger members address the NIRSA 2013 hotel policy for individuals under 21 years of age.

Paris Las Vegas hotel room

In order to adhere to Las Vegas alcohol and gambling licenses, hotels have to adhere to specific guidelines for all of their underage guests, regardless of whether a guest is visiting on business or vacation. As underage individuals must room with a 21+ individual, it is important for NIRSA’s Student Members who will not yet be 21 years of age by March 4, 2013 to understand this policy and plan ahead when making their reservations and travel plans.

  • Every room reservation must be made with a credit card of someone who is 21 years or older;
  • The 21+ individual, who registered for the room with a credit card, must check-in before any other room guests;
  • No one who is under 21 can check-in to their room, if the room reservation’s cardholder hasn’t checked in first.

Student members at all points in their college careers should consider rooming together. Not only will rooming with members of different ages resolve issues surrounding the Las Vegas hotel policy, but doing so will also diversify and enrich your conference experience.

As always, planning ahead will help to avoid any unnecessary complications. If four students are staying together in a room—and some are arriving early for the Student Professional Development workshop—they will still want to make certain that their 21+ year old roommate is on hand to check in first.
