NIRSA’s professional members and the Student Leadership Team will have the opportunity to vote on proposed changes to the NIRSA Bylaws during the 2017 NIRSA Elections taking place January 18–30. The 2016–2017 NIRSA Bylaws Committee has worked closely with the team at NIRSA Headquarters and with NIRSA’s legal counsel to prepare proposed amendments to the Bylaws for the NIRSA Board of Directors’ review and approval.
On December 6, 2016, the full NIRSA Board approved the proposed amendments to NIRSA’s Bylaws. The proposed amendments have been submitted to NIRSA’s membership for consideration and adoption. You can read the rationale, red-lined, and clean versions of the proposed amendments on the NIRSA elections page where you can also reference a Board-approved Regional Composition Policy and a Regional Policy FAQ.
In a nutshell, NIRSA’s regional alignment is constituted by our bylaws and there is no process for considering requests for changes to the Association’s regional alignment. The proposed amendments reference a newly-approved Board policy for regional composition that requires significant member engagement prior to a Board decision.
If members have additional questions about the proposed bylaws after reading through the proposed amendments, rationale, policy, and FAQs, a Q&A session will take place on Tuesday, January 10 at 2:00pm EST. For more information about this Q&A—how to login or dial in, for example—keep an eye on the elections page. The Q&A will be held with NIRSA President Stacey Hall and Member Network Chair David Peters.
