If you want to be a catalyst for action, generate results, and vet ideas in a highly-participatory think tank, consider submitting an application to serve on the NIRSA Assembly! The Assembly is the leadership body of NIRSA that focuses on the dynamic and long-term needs of the collegiate recreation profession.
JT Timmons, Director of Recreational Services at the University of Iowa, explains that “Assembly members identify current issues and trends, think through and discuss given topics. The most rewarding aspect for me has been working with a new group of folks I might not have otherwise connected with. The variety of Assembly members lends itself to that.”
The Assembly seeks energetic members with a capacity to contribute innovative ideas and who are committed to advancing the profession. Stephanne Musser, Assistant Director of Fitness Programs and Services at The Ohio State University, shares that “so much great thinking, collaborating and action has happened. With all of the different experiences and insights that are shared, you really do learn and share a lot.”
Whether you possess a broad, working knowledge of the profession, strategic expertise, or a passion for current and relevant topics related to collegiate recreation, you are encouraged to apply! Terms begin on July 1 and there are positions open for both new and experienced NIRSA members:
- Student members
- Professional members who have been members for less than five years
- NIRSA members (i.e. life, professional, student, emeritus, associate)
- Open seats designated for non-members or NIRSA members
The NIRSA Assembly is a great vehicle for contributing your talents and ideas to advance the profession. For Stephanne, there are many rewards to be gained from serving NIRSA: “With the Assembly specifically, I feel that it has been most rewarding to contribute and learn at the same time. The conversations that are happening are purposefully relevant to the future of our profession and so much good has come from this ‘ground up’ effort.”
If you want to be a catalyst for action, consider serving on the collegiate recreation profession’s think tank—submit an application to become a NIRSA Assembly member. Applications will be accepted through Monday, April 18.
