This year’s hurricane season has already created many challenges for the Southeast. The devastation is still very raw for many parts of the NIRSA member community. As details about the damage and ruin from these natural disasters become clearer to those who weren’t in or around the impacted areas, many in the NIRSA community are concerned for colleagues and friends in the hardest hit places. Our thoughts are with those who have been and continue to be impacted by Hurricane Helene.

Campus recreation has often been at the forefront of helping their communities recover after disaster strikes, providing support through various relief efforts and initiatives. We know that several schools are providing support to students who have been displaced because their college or university may have had to temporarily suspend operations.

We’re currently aware of the following schools who are lending a hand to people who have been impacted by Hurricane Helene:

If you’ve been displaced by Helene, please reach out to your NIRSA colleagues at the schools listed above to learn more about how they are assisting students and schools that are in need.

If you or your institution have been impacted by Helene or any other natural disaster, please reach out to your regional representative or a member of NIRSA Staff to let us know how you’re doing and  how NIRSA colleagues can lend support to your campus community’s relief and recovery efforts.

If your campus is directly involved in organizing relief efforts and would like to be added to the list of schools that are able to provide support, please share how the NIRSA community can help by emailing NIRSA Director of Membership & Leadership Sarah Leskovec or NIRSA Membership Services Manager Megan Granholm.
