NIRSA is able to support the campus recreation field and help members make a difference because of our dedicated volunteers and it is a great way to build your skill set and grow your network. The Association is currently recruiting for a range of volunteers, including members to serve in scores of roles across NIRSA, NSC, and NIRSA Foundation committees and work teams in the 2024-2025 NIRSA leadership year, which begins on May 1.
Why you should apply
Volunteering takes time and we know our members are busy doing amazing work for their students and colleagues. Still, if you give your time to volunteer with us, you will also walk away with growth and enrichment.
NIRSA is a large community with wide reach; connecting with NIRSA members will grow your network. This includes prominent leaders in the campus recreation and wellbeing field. Volunteering is a great way to meet potential mentors who have a wide range of experiences. Your work with committees can help you make connections that will continue to benefit you for years to come. We have members all around the globe and volunteering can help you build professional relationships that might be difficult to come by otherwise.
Volunteering with NIRSA can help you learn new skills and expose you to professional experiences that can help build out your resume. This is a great opportunity to do something outside of the scope of your current role on campus and help you see what can be next for you. We have many experiences available including event planning, student development, research, fundraising, and more. Helping NIRSA can add more tools to your toolbox.
Serving on committees and work groups can also be fun and impactful. NIRSA members are some of the most passionate professionals and have so much enthusiasm for the profession. You can be a decision-maker and help welcome others to the field and help them grow alongside you. There are a lot of opportunities to do meaningful work when volunteering for NIRSA.
How to apply
There’s one application and it includes a comprehensive list of all committee and work team opportunities for NIRSA, the NIRSA Foundation, and the NIRSA Championship Series. You can select up to three groups you’re interested in being a part of this coming year. The order in which you select your groups will constitute your preference(s) and will be taken into consideration during the committee selection process.
Additionally, applicants are asked to state why they’re interested in serving on the groups that they select. This provides the selection committee with knowledge about the applicant’s experience and interests so they can formulate well-rounded committees and work teams. Members who are currently serving in a one-year position on a committee or work team and wish to continue their service need to reapply to be considered for the upcoming year.
Applications are due by Thursday, February 15. Please visit our website for full details about the NIRSA committee application process. With the leadership year starting May 1, the committee and work team appointments will be made in Spring 2024 and announced before the 2024 NIRSA Annual Conference & Campus Rec and Wellness Expo taking place in Phoenix, AZ from April 17-20, 2024.
Apply by February 15
There are many opportunities (and reasons) to volunteer, so apply today! Deadlines vary for different roles, but most committee and work team applications are due on February 15.
